🌠🌟The Dream🌟🌠
It was a cloudy day. The clouds had red and orange blotches, and the air smelled really bad. Vanessa Al- Murkhi was sitting in her house. Well it wasn’t really a house anymore. Almost half of it was blown to smithereens, because of the many bombs dropped in her city, Jerusalem, which was in Israel. For three years the war had been going on. She wished that Israel and Palestine could divide the land in half. Such a simple thing. Her thoughts wandered back to that sunny, cheerful day, three long, disastrous years ago.
“Vanessa, look!” her friend Nya Zafar, whisper- shouted. “It’s him!”
“Huh? Wha-” she snapped out of daydream mode. “Wow! It’s actually him! I can’t believe we are seeing him.”
She and Nya were both talking about the president of Israel, President Sarni. Although they had never seen him before, they had heard a lot of good news about him. Vanessa reached up and patted her bright blonde hair, which had natural streaks of light brown. For this occasion, she had asked her maid, Mayna, to do a nice hairstyle for her. Mayna had twisted her hair into a bun sort of thing, then added fresh flowers. Nya’s light brown hair, was done in a waterfall braid, with light pink flowers, which brought out the green in her eyes. Both of them were there, because President Sarni would be giving his speech. Vanessa tapped her parents.
“Mummy, Daddy, look! It’s President Sarni!” she exclaimed. Her parents smiled and nodded.
“A-hem!!! Hello all! This is President Sarni.” the president started. He slowly started drifting off to his speech, after a very long introduction of himself, like the clouds in the sky. For some random reason, in the middle of his speech, he decided to denounce the President of Palestine.
“Vos narish nar(That stupid fool)!” he boomed in Yiddish “Nit gebn aundz di heylik land(Not giving us the Holy Land)! Vas tut er trakhtn er iz(Who does he think he is)?”
As if on cue, like a movie scene, six gunned men jumped out of hiding. One stood out the most. They couldn’t see his entire face, only his eyes and his mouth. He was dressed in a black uniform, with red stripes and a Palestinian flag badge on the front.
“Aundzer prezident vet hern vegn dem(Our president will hear about this)! Dem mitl mlkhmh(This means war)!” he yelled. They glared and ran off. Everyone turned to President Sarni and glared.
“DISPATCH TROOPS A, D, AND F!!! GET THE FORCES READY!!!” he hollered. Then he turned to us, “You guys are dismissed.”
Around twenty to thirty carriages appeared, horse- drawn. The rich people got in and the carriages were off. Vanessa and Nya weren’t exactly very rich, but they weren’t very poor either. In fact, they were about average.
The memory faded away, as Vanessa doused a cloth and put it on her forehead. It had been nice being in a comfortably living family. Now they were poor. All because of a stupid war. Vanessa’s beautiful blonde hair was now very dirty, with ash because of all the bombs that had been dropped in Jerusalem. All she and her family had to wear, were the old flour sack rags. There was not a single flower that was still alive. That beautiful, once majestic city that they lived in, was now an ugly, terrible place, where no one wanted to go. Food was scarce, and the army gave them each, rations of bread, and water. All the rich people were hogging all the food and luxuries. It broke Vanessa’s heart to see all the poor people, thin, starving, and dying. She gave them as much food as she could gather, and gave it to them. She herself ate very little.
Vanessa’s parents were very protective of her. They wouldn’t let her get out of the house at all. One day, when she was sleeping, or at least trying to sleep, the spirits of her ancestors came to her.
“There is a magic jewel, hidden in the Great Sphinx of Egypt.” they said to her. “Find it and the war will stop. We will stop time, so when you come back, no time will pass. There is a Palestinian boy on the loose, trying to search for this jewel too. Hurry!” her ancestor, named Moshan Al- Murkhi, was an actor. He was killed during the war.
Since it was night, Vanessa stole out of the house. The sight was not pretty. Thousands of soldiers lay dead on the ground. Her heart broke, thinking of all those families that lost a beloved member. All because of President Sarni’s foolish actions.
She crept into a rich man’s house. This man, she knew, had lots of food and treasures, which he refused to share with anyone. On the majestic bed, he was soundly sleeping, so she sneaked up to the dining table, and stole three water pouches, four bananas, and a pack of Crazy Bomz, which were like Cheetos balls.
“Huh?!? Who's there?” a groggy voice asked. It was the man. Vanessa’s heart froze. She ran out, trying to be as quiet as she could and hid behind the bush. Looking around, she ran. Vanessa stood there, staring. The whole body of water had parted in half, just as it had for Moses, during the Exodus.
“Hahahah! I got you!” said a rough, creepy voice behind Vanessa. It was the man she had stole from. “Thief! I will surely have you killed!”
“Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!” Vanessa’s voice called. She sat up straight, and looked around. It was only her parents sleeping in her house. So it was a dream. She wished the jewel part was true. When would the war end?
And to this day that horrible war hasn’t ended yet.
